Our client had a large number of wide format printers that were producing large numbers of pages for various customers.
Problem: The client wanted their customers to pay for the pages they printed but had no way of tracking who printed what and when.
Solution: We wrote a custom program that allowed them to create accurate invoices for each customer as needed. They were able to turn a substantial loss into a profit.
A little more detail: We read and parsed the printers log files. The data in the log files was written to usable data files. An system was created to allow the client to assign prices to media on a per-customer basis. Invoices were accurate to the square foot of media and captured all other costs as well. (toner etc.)
